If reports that the Marlins may send Manager Joe Girardi packing are true, then that's the best news Chicago baseball fans have gotten in long time. The Cubs could hire Girardi (Dusty can go to Seattle where the combination of rainy weather and Dusty's post game new conferences will bore the Seattle media to sleep) and the Marlins can hire White Sox 3rd Base Coach Joey "Windmill Arms" Cora as the manager!

Good luck to the Tigers and Twins in the playoffs as the White sink with the speed of quicksand out of contention. Maybe this will make me appreciate last year even more as, something I never even dreamed of, the World Series was played in my hometown and the team that my dad took me to as a kid won the World Series. Alas, magic could not return to the Southside as the pitching failed to match last year's standard. Plus the Tigers amazing first half coupled with the Twins amazing second half meant that the Sox will be singing a familiar refrain often heard in Chicago, especially on the North Side" " Wait till next year!" Go Tigers!

University of Oklahoma's President wants football team's loss to the Oregon Ducks voided. Alright, the replays show that the refs were wrong about the onside kick, but you would the think that a University President would ahve more important things to do than worry about his football team losing a game!

Thankfully I was completely wrong in prediciting another victory for Notre Dame as the Michigan Wolverines manhandled the Domers! Can we stop overrating Notre Dame now! More importantly can we stop the pitiful Brady Quin for the Heisman talk! Brady Quin's last play of tyhe game, the backward pass fumble resulting in another Michigan touchdown shoukd be replayed every time some mentions "Golden Boy" for the Heisman! The Domers were lucky to win at Georgia Tech yet they somehow rose to #2 in the polls! And when you lose as badly as Notre Dame did at home, you are pretty much eliminated from national championship discussion! A great day for Notre Dame Haters throughout the world!!

If you are going to gamble (find this casino!) please do not rely on my picks even though I did pick Ohio State over Texas! Here are some quick picks and thoughts for the weekend. As much as I will be rooting for the Wolverines, ND should win at home once again (Notre Dame 24, Michigan-17). #3 Auburn hosting #6 LSU should be the game of the weekend, and I go with the home team in a close one. And for a game that should not be on TV, Syracuse visits the Illini. I watched the first half of last week's Illinois-Rutgers game and witnessed some of the worst game coaching this side of Terry Bevington! Ron Zook better be a great recruiter because his game day decisions leave a lot to desire. The Illini should win this one. If not, I will laugh often and loud at my Illini friends.
As if the story about the Northern Colorado 2nd string punter allegedly stabbing the 1st punter in the leg wasn't strange enough, police are now searching for an accomplice in the crime!!

Reports are surfacing that Reggie Bush and his family accepted mucho cash and benfits while Bush was at USC. Usc could be in major trouble and Bush could possibly lose his Heisman! Maybe Vince Young will get the 2005 Heisman after all!

AJ! AJ! What a great start to this sports weekend. The Perch and I were both in attendance at Friday's night game and we were both disgusted by the "fans" who booed Bobby Jenks. It's Bobby Jenks, yes he had a crap game but he was the guy on the mound for the last out of the World Series and if we make the playoffs the only guy we want on the mound in the late innings. And those guys sitting in front of me who left in disgust when the Tribe tied it in the ninth (they didn't even wait until the Tribe took the lead!) explain to me how you can calll youself White Sox fans!!! AJ! AJ! AJ!

HINES WARD- HALL OF FAME? While I don't like his muscle flexing after almost every catch ("No, I don't have tickets to the gun show!"), Hines Ward is definitely one of my favorite receivers in the NFL. he may not of the stats of a Chad Johnson (although he does have some decent stats) he play on a run-first team and he blocks as well as any receiver inthe league. If I had a Hall of Fame vote, Hines Ward would get a "thumbs-up" from me.

THE BOTTOM TEN. The worst Division 1 football team in the country this week? The Duke Blue Devils who were SHUT OUT by the killer Spiders of Richmond!! Oh well, onthe bright side only 67 days until the basketball team's first game!

My Fantasy Football Team. I hope I was not the only idiot who wasted several hours this Labor Day weekend indoors drafting my fantasy football draft. I am not optimistic with my team:
QB Michael Vick, Falcons
QB Drew Brees, Saints
WR Marvin Harrison, Colts
WR Joe Horn, Saints
RB Edgerrin James, Cards
RB Mike Bell, Broncos
TE Vernon Davis, S.F.
W/R Jamal Lewis, Ravens
W/R Michael Jenkins, Falcons
K John Kasay, Panthers
Def Denver
D Charles Tillman, Da Bears
DB Charles Woodson, Pack
DL Lofa Tatupa, Seahawks
Backups: QB, Matt Leinart; QB J.P. Losman; RBs Adrian Peterson, Mike Alstott; WRs Greg Jennings, Santonio Holmes; TE Jerramy Stevens; Oakland Defense and K Stephen Gostkowski
Some quick thoughts from this weekend's college football action. Notre Dame is the #2 team in the country? Please!! The Domers were lucky to escape with a victory over the Ramblin' Wreck. At least two other teams that I watched this weekend, West Virginia and Louisville (with Michael Bush) would have beaten the Irish.... Speaking of Louisville, it is just sad that Michale Bush was lost for the season, because we could have had another Bush win the Heisman this year... Colorado loses to a bad Div 1-AA team, Montana State! John Welsh once threw 6 or 7 TDs agaisnt the Montana State Bobcats, in basically one half of action. Colorado fans are you still excited about Dan Hawkins?... Alabama barely beats Hawaii!!.... My current #1 for the Heisman, West Virginia RB Steve Slaydon.
