Reading John Feinstein's blog today, I found out that today is the 17 year anniversary of Jimmy Valvano's death. I always recommend Feinstein's blog, but especially today.

Jimmy V was the life of the party, and in my humble opinion, a pretty good basketball coach. I was lucky enough to meet Coach Valvano at Kansas City airport during the Final Four. Couldn't have been nicer, and talk about charisma. He had just turned down the UCLA job to stay at NC State.

I can't remember a visiting coach enjoying his visits to Cameron as much as Jimmy V. I remember one game where Jimmy V paced was pacing the sidelines and the Cameron Crazies started chanting "Sit. Sit." So what did Valvano do, he sat down- right on the court.

But, of course, I will never forget watching his speech at the ESPYs, where Coach K and others had to help Valvano down the steps. If you can watch this speech without tearing up, I'm not sure what to say.

If you can, consider donating to the Jimmy V Foundation. But even if you can't, find time today to laugh, to cry , and to use your mind. And of course, in the words of Jimmy V:

"Don't Give Up! Don't Ever Give Up!"

Why delay the inevitable? Vinny will be fired as the Bulls' coach, it is a given. So why are the Bulls waiting till the weekend? To be nice to Vinny? Please, this is a team that has twice fired coaches on Christmas Eve (Tim Floyd "resigned" on Dec. 24, 2001; Scott Skiles was fired on Dec. 24, 2007; plus, Bill Cartwright was fired on or about Thanksgiving). Wish Vinny the best of luck (he should have worked as an assistant coach first) and let him go and begin the off-season job of building a team that is primed for a deep run in the playoffs.

And if you really are undecided about Vinny, then I have to ask WHY? How could you not know whether or not you want to keep him? C'mon, already!!

1. Love the fact that Tebow was drafted before Jimmy Clausen. (ESPN reporting that Buffalo really wanted Tebow).

2. Bulls almost blow it (Lebron: 39-10-8!!), but hold on to make the series interesting.

3. Idaho & Boise State both have someone drafted in the first round!!

4. Looks like the Blackhawks are about to even up the series. Thank God, because right now we are trying not to think about baseball in Chicago.

NFL SUSPENDS BIG BEN- SO WHO'S NEXT?

Putting aside the question as to whether or not, NFL Commish Roger Goodell was right in suspending Big Ben for 4 games (it is not going to be 6 games!), he did suspend him and now he has really opened a can of worms.

By suspending Ben, Goodell is going to have to do the same with other players- equal treatment, right?

Next- suspend Colts' DT Eric Foster. Colts have stated that the team will not be suspending him because the police investigated the "incident" and decided not to press charges.

Sorry, not good enough for Commissioner Goodell because that is exactly the Big Ben problem.

Alyssa Milano Returns to TV

Alyssa Milano is "Romantically Challenged." That's the name of her new sitcom which airs tonight. The early reviews are pretty bad, so you may want to check it out soon before it's cancelled. Then again, that show with Jim Belushi was on TV for something like 8 years, so there is always a chance.

YES WHITE SOX FANS- IT IS NOT TOO EARLY TO PANIC!!

The White Sox are currently 4-8 for the season and as I type this losing 7-3 to the Tribe (it was 7-0 with Gavin Floyd pulled early). Barring a miracle come-back today, the White Sox will be 4-9, their worst start since '97 or '98 (too depressed to look it up).

With the Twins off to a great start and seemingly enjoying the new Target Field, this is to say the least- NOT GOOD!

Could Ozzie's job be in jeopardy? Yes!

Oh well, I could always become a Cubs fan!!

1. Here's hoping that Brad Stevens stays at Butler. If Kyle Singler stays at DUKE, then DUKE or Michigan State (if Izzo doesn't take the $$$ from Oregon-ha!) should be preseason #1; but, Butler should be no worse than in preseason top #5. PG and I may have to order tcikets for next season's Butler- Loyola game now.

2. From beginning to end, the best NCAA tournament ever? Will expansion ruin the tournament?

3. Oliver Purnell takes over the DePaul job!? What does Clemson do now. What about once again going to Dayton and hiring Brian Gregory for the job?
