MY TOP TEN JOHN HUGHES MOVIES

This is a tough list to narrow down to just ten, when you include films that John Hughes is credited as a writer, director or producer, but I will give it a try.

I start out with this caveat- I have never seen all of "Sixteen Candles" (despite the fact that it is part of my expansive DVD collection), in case you are wondering why that did not make the list.

TOP TEN:
1. Uncle Buck- John Candy at his best. The movie gets a little strange/dark near the end when Uncle Buck locks up the kid in the trunk, but that's a minor fault in this film. I am sure that I put this on the top of my list because I have often been compared to the title character (I am sure that is not always meant as a compliment, but I don't care).
2. Planes, Trains and Automobiles- Could have easily been #1 on my list, filled with great moments throughout. If my memory is correct, I saw this at the theatre in North Carolina at a time that I was homesick for Chicago and it did cause some trepidation when I was making travel plans home.
3. Vacation- classic.
4. Breakfast Club- maybe his most influential film.
5. Ferris Bueller's Day Off- does a great job of showing off Chicago, including Wrigley on weekday afternoon and yeas- there was a time when you had weekday afternoon parades in Chicago. Sloane, what?- one of the top ten movie girlfriends of all time?
6. Only the Lonely- another great John Candy film (hard to believe that John Candy has been dead for 15 years!).
7. Weird Science- doesn't stand the test of time as well as some of the the others, but not many women looked as good as Kelly LeBrock ("Lisa") did when this movie came out!
8. Some Kind of Wonderful- personally like this movie better than "Pretty in Pink"
9. The Great Outdoors- Didn't care for this movie when it first come out. Now, if it is on TV, I have to watch the scene when John Candy eats the huge steak.
10. (tie)-Mr. Mom and She's Having a Baby- She's Having a Baby may be Hughes' most underrated film.

Honorable Mention- Sixteen Candles, Career Opportunities (bad movie except for Frank Whaley and a young and extremely well -endowed Jennifer Connelly), Christmas Vacation, Pretty in Pink and Home Alone

Did I miss any?

Extra credit to anyone who can identify the actor who played the Clown (no cheating).

Hint- he once bought me a beer.

Some things just make me wonder?!

Chicago's Own John Hughes Dies from Heart Attack

My Top Ten John Hughes films to follow.

Since my one week "radio silence" ban of HM ends today (BTW, how many wins for your local baseball team since your Sox-bashing post? One?!), I hope he will grace us with his comments of John Hughes film and all thing 80s (including pictures of himself in ht early 80s).

In my mind at least, John Candy greeted Hughes at the Heavenly Gates with cold brew!!

RIP, John Hughes, RIP.

A VIDEO FOR AL S. AND ANYONE ELSE

Hot Florida Bikini Contest - Click here for the funniest movie of the week

You should enjoy the music more than that of David Bagdade. Plus it's under 5 minutes, so you should watch the entire video.

WATCHING VIDEOS- JUST LIKE BRAD CHILDRESS!

Just read a story where Vikings' coach, Brad Childress, stated that he has watched video of Brett Favre (aka Selfish "Like at Me" Media Whore) and Childress declared that Favre's arm looked fine to him.

What can you tell from watching video, you ask?

Well, this weekend, based partially on HM's recommendation, I watched "The House Bunny." And based on this, just like Brad Childress, I can declare that Anna Faris' butt looks fine!

Some Reasons why I Like Joanna Krupa

1. She's hot as shit!
2. She's Polish-American!
3. She lived in Chicago.
4. She told-off T.O. on the Superstars (see a sports connection and a Chicago connection, in case you wonder about the appropriateness of this post on The K-Line); and,
5. The following quote was attributed to her:

"I like my butt. It’s perfectly proportional, it’s cute, and it’s still where it belongs. It’s been behaving so far, and if it doesn’t, I can spank it a little bit and put it back in place-just like I do with my men."

2-2 (National League back in it!)

Thanks to the other St. Louis All-Star Starter!

AL UP 2-O

Is it over already?

Nice fielding, Pujols!!! Take that, Cardinal fans!!!!

ALL STAR GAME PREDICTION

I think it is finally the year that the NL wins the All-Star game, with either Beckett or Wakefield getting the loss.

However, if it's a close game and Trevor Hoffman gets in, then the AL will win.

WHY DO TEAMS PITCH TO D-LEE?!

Espeically at Wrigley?! No one else on the Cubbies can hit worth crap, but teams refuse to pitch around Lee.
Today's example- Tony LaRussa. D-Lee's 3 run homer just tied the game in the 4th.

What's with all the Michael Jackson coverage?

The Michael Jackson memorial! Pop star, alright, but c'mon already!

But then again, maybe I am wrong. Maybe, in the future, much like Bill & Ted's Excellent music, Michael Jackson's music will harmonize he universe and bring peace to all on earth.

While HM is giving you reviews of movies like "The Proposal", the K-Line visited and evaluated "The Tilted Kilt."

ANOTHER "CREATIVE" SHIRT OUTSIDE WRIGLEY!

Last year it was the "Horry Kow!" T-Shirt; this year it's the "Ozzie Mows Wrigley Field" shirt (apparently plagiarised from a St. Louis shirt "Zambrano Mows my lawn."). When I was outside Wrigley on Tuesday night, I asked a T-shirt vendor if he had any "World Series Champs" shirts. That did not go over too well.

THE IDIOT THAT IS MILTON BRADLEY!

"I wasn't embarrassed," ... "I've done a whole lot of [other] things to be embarrassed about. The run was going to score and a fan got a souvenir. I just made a mistake. I guess I'll be in the bloopers"
Bradley also stated: "I give 250 % on the field."
250 is better than Bradley's current batting average.
Nice use of $30 million, Mr. Hendry!

THANKS TO RKG FOR THIS ONE

BTW, just a reminder that Cubs' Fans and South-Siders make strange bedfellows this weekend as the Cubs welcome the Twins to Wrigley.

BASEBALL IS A FUNNY GAME!

Last night, the White Sox have 0-5 Contreras, just up from the minors, on the mound. And what does he do? Eight innings of 1 hit ball!

Amazing.

OKAY, IT''S ATLANTA IN THE NATIONAL LEAGUE!

(See prior post)

HELP ME ADOPT ANOTHER BASEBALL TEAM!

With the White Sox sucking, the K-Line needs to adopt another MLB team to root for and follow this season. Now, it won't be another AL Central team or the Cubbies, so don't go there.
Right now I am thinking the Yankees (because the Red Sox have become the new evil empire- look at what that bad, bad Red Sox fan is doing to that poor girl, just because she roots for the Yankees!!). And it the NL, I'm thinking the Atlanta Braves, although I do enjoy rooting for the Cards, Brewers, Reds and even the Astros when they play a certain opponent!

YOU GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!?

Former Cubs' "great" (I couldn't help myself on that on) announces his retirement form baseball and states:
"I will calmly wait for my induction to the Baseball Hall of Fame. Don't I have the numbers to be inducted?"
It is gonna be a long, long, long wait.

WHITE SOX TO CALL-UP #1 PICK, GORDON BECKHAM!

...and say "good-bye" to Wilson "So Far I Have Sucked" Betemit!

GOOD THINGS OR MAYBE BAD NEWS COMES IN THREE

What happened to the Cubs yesterday?

1. Zambrano, in the midst of a 6 game suspension, misses the team plane. GREAT TEAM PLAYER, Z!

2. Cubs' bullpen blows a 5 run lead. Okay, Marmol didn't look good, but Gregg looked awful in the ninth! Cubs' fans already impatient with a Wood-less bullpen move into full panic mode.

3. Surprise, surprise- Milton Bradley leaves the game with an injury!!

So, sometimes, Good news comes in threes or Bad news comes in threes. It is all a matter of perspective.
