It's official: the Twins were crappy in the playoffs! You should read the entire aticle by Jim Caple at espn.com: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/playoffs2006/columns/story?columnist=caple_jim&id=2615945 but here are the highlights:
Few teams could have played worse than the Twins the past four days, when they got swept by Oakland in the Division Series. They fielded terribly (three more errors in Game 3 on Friday after
Torii Hunter's blunder in Game 2). They couldn't hit in the clutch (1-for-19 with runners in scoring position). They couldn't execute the fundamentals. And they never led.
"It's tough," Hunter said. "We just got outplayed. We just stunk." ..."Hunter is one of the game's best center fielders, but he had a bad series. His poor decision to dive for a sinking line drive cost the Twins dearly in Game 2 when it turned into a two-run inside-the-park home run, and another bad decision helped squander an early scoring opportunity Friday when he bunted
Justin Morneau to third base after a leadoff double in the second inning. It rarely makes sense to play for one run that early in a game, and it didn't in this case either, especially after Morneau wound up rotting at third base.
