Apparently the star of the Super Bowl Media Day was Ines Sainz of TV Azteca (Mexico). Somehow, this hard-working journalist was able to work her way to the front of the media mob and get the attention of players like Peyton Manning!! Hey, diversity is important and it is nice to see women rise in the ranks of journalism!!! You, GO Girl!!

Hey Chicago, do you know that we have a #1 college basketball team in town. Granted, it is the NAIA, but the Robert Morris College Eagles are the #1 team in the NAIA poll. The Eagles made the NAIA final four last year and currently undefeated. I am embarrassed to say that I just learned that RMC plays its home games at Loyola's Gentile Center ("The Joe"). Go Robert Morris!! Chicago deserves another champion.

Some respect for Bucky as the Badgers move up to #2 in the ESPN/USA Today College Hoops Top Twenty-Five. Ohio State checks in at #5, but except for Wisconsin and Ohio State, how good is the Big Ten? The Illini are down, Iowa is barely above .500 and let's not even mention Minnesota, Northwestern and Penn State. Michigan has begun its annual dive in the standings and Indiana doesn't impress me.

Alright, time for some respect for the Badgers. Badgers hold the longest current winning streak, 17 games, after winning at Iowa City. With 21 wins, the Badgers only loss was to Missouri State from the MVC. Despite this, its appears that nationally, no one thinks of the Badgers in the same category with Florida, North Carolina, Kansas and UCLA. As of last week, Wisconsin had a strong RPI of 5, but behind both Pittsburgh and Arizona. A win at Ohio State later this season will go a long way towards earning the respect it deserves.

Some extremely generous home court clock manangement allowed the Duke Blue Devils defeat Clemson 68-66. After Duke literally tossed this game away, allowing Clemson to tie the game with a gift 3-pointer, Duke was given 4.4 seconds on the clock. At best it should have been 3.4 seconds ont he clock. Duke needed every tenth of those 4.4 seconds as David McClure barely got the shot off for the winning basket. Clemson fans (and Duke-haters generally) will be pretty pissed about this game and the rematch at Clemson on Feb. 22, 2007 will be pretty interesting.

Yesterday, my bud, HM posted on his blog (click on HOOPRAMBLINGS on the right under "Links") so possible "problems" for Sean Salisbury. With former Bear and fan favorite, Tom Waddle leaving WGN Radio and rumored to be moving to WMVP (ESPN), we can only hope that this means that obnoxious-outsider Salisbury (he picked the Saints ans already has picked the Colts) will be replaced by Waddle!

Under the category "They get paid to do this." My friend, TEG, and friend/fellow blogger, HM, are fond of saying "They get paid to do this" when we hear sport commentators and media say stupid things. I don't just mean stupid predictions , but stating FACTS that are just wrong! Today I pick-up the Sun-Times (no Jay Mariatti column today!) and check the College Basketball page (page 104 for locals). Unnder the Associated Press Top 25, I see #14 Butler with its next game listed as "at Detroit, Saturday." Under "Area/Locals" I check Loyola and according to the Sun-Times, Loyola's next game is "vs. Wright State, 4 Saturday." Well the next game for Butler is @ Loyola this Thursday, i.e., tomorrow! Gee, you think a Chicago paper could get this correct!!!

Bruce Pearl, you got to love him- especially now since he is no longer in the Horizon League! Any coach who can laugh at the heckling he recieves from the K, UIC Badger and friends is alright in my book! Can you imagine Dean Smith going shirtless and painting himself Puke Blue, I mean, Sky Blue, I mean "Carolina Blue" and supporting the Lady Tar Heels? Dang, the Great Deano would have tried to have me ejcted from the stadium if I heckled him the same way I heckled Pearl!!

NFC Championship (New Orleans Saints @ Chicago Bears) aka "The Ditka Bowl": Since Mike Ditka has been the head coach for both of these teams, some have called this game, the Ditka Bowl. Da Coach preferes to state that he is the only person to be fired as head coach by both of these teams. Early in the week, da Coach did not want to state who he was rooting for in this game, drawing outrage from some locals, including calls of a boycott of Ditka's restaurant (If you go to Ditka's, I strongly recommend the oyster shooters as an app. and some room for the ice cream pie for dessert!! It's price-y, $9 if I recall, but large enough to feed a group of 4 and it is awesome!!). Eventually da Coach came out and stated that he was rooting for da Bears and picking the Bears. Well, it seems like very few outside of Chicago are picking the Bears. The Saints certaintly have plenty of weapons on offense, Brees, Duece and Reggie Bush. But the Saints are certaintly not without weakness, including injuries to Joe Horn, and others. While Bush has been dynamic and sensational recently, I think the Bears linbackers, especially Urlacher (this is his chance to shine on the big stage) will contain him. Personally, I am more concerned with Duece McAlister running up the middle, exploiting the absence of Tommie Harris. Snow is predicted on Sunday and hopefully it will be here in time to put the clamps on the Saints offense. Rex doesn't have to be Sexy Rexy but he can't be "Totally Gross, Man!" I think the Bears special team will need to step up and they will. Da Bears! Da Bears!! Bears 24- Saints 21!!!
AFC Championship Game (Patriots @ Colts): I have gone back and forth on picking this game. Like Daddy3dogg, I would love to see a rematch of Super Bowl XX and my general rule in the playoffs is to not pick agaisnt Tom Brady. But, the Colts are at home, they have defeated New England this year and the Colts, not the Pats are the team with Adam Vinitari ("Pure Money") and the Colts defense, somehow has performed well in the playoffs. You can usually count on Peyton Manning choking in a big game but the Colts have won two playoff games with subpar performances by Manning! Manning, big game or not, is due for a big performance, especially at home. But still the Patriots have Brady and Belicheck!! The Colts have to slay their foe, just like the Jordan Bulls had to get past the Pistons. I am going with the Colts in another close one: 27-24.
I have been struggling with my picks in this weekend's Conference Championship games. With a 7-1 record thus far with my playoff picks (damn you, Tony Romo, damn you!), I guess I'm feeling the pressure to continue my winning ways. I should have my picks by the end of the day (alright, you all know I am picking the Bears over the Saints) but don't put too much faith in them.

A Happy 39th Birthday to one of Daddy3dogg's favorites' Danni Ashe! Danni has long claimed that she, and not Cindy Margolis is the most downloaded woman on the internet. Personally, Cindy is more to my liking than Ms. Ashe. But unlike Ms. Margolis, it took me a while to find a "clean" picture of Ms. Ashe (not a bad one!). Not going to give you a link to Danni's Hardrive, I figure you can find that on your own!

As Good as Gold!(As Good as "Robbie Gould"!) Eight playoff games and the K is 7-1 in his picks! Now my reasoning was usually wrong (picking the Colts solely because the Ravens had male cheerleaders and I hate Brian Billick). Nontheless, I am going to pat myself on the back for picking 7 out of 8 games correctly (Tony Romo kept me from being perfect!)

Saving the best for last: Seattle @ BEARS! I can't be objective in this one, but I will try. This is a better Seattle team than the one that visited Chicago for a butt-kicking. But then again, this is not the same Bears team, missing, among others, DT Tommie Harris who had a great game agaisnt Seattle. I gotta hope that Rex plays like Rexy and the defense steps up especially agaisnt the run. The Bears need an early lead (Devin Hester, please!!) so that Thomas Jones/Cedric Benson can control the clock and the defense can be let loose. So, I predict that a certain team, by the lake, begining with "Chi" and ending with "cago" shall prevail. And that team is known as DA BEARS! Let's say 28-14. If not, then poor Todd will have anotehr heart attack!
New England @ San Diego. This could be the best game of the weekend. San Diego has been the NFL's best team, with the NFL's best player- LT, and an outstanding defense. But they are coached by Marty Shottenheimer it the playoffs, which is a recipe for disaster. I find it difficult to pick agaisnt Tom Brady in the playoffs. I'm going with New England in a close one, 27-24.
Eagles @ Saints: Most people I talk to are pickign the Eagles in this one, mostly statign that the Saints' defense stink. Well, I think that Jeff Garcia's magical season is about to end. Drew Brees is not Tony Romo! Sean Payton has done a great job coaching this season and he should be ready for Andy reid and the Eagles. Saints 24-14.
Colts @ Ravens: I don't want to pick the Ravens. I think Billick is a blowhard. I think Steve McNair is over-the-hill and the team, especially the defense is arragant as hell. And even though Art Modell no longer owns the team, I still blame the Ravens for leaving Cleveland (but then again, the Colts left Baltimore!). But it is pretty tough not to pick the Ravens. Jamel Lewis should have a big day rushing agaisnt the Colts D; Indy will have difficulty away from the Dome and the Ravens secondary should give Peyton Manning plenty to think about. So I am going to pick the Ravens, right? Well, I was going but then I saw that the Ravens have MALE CHEERLEADERS!?!! (I believe the cheerleaders are called the "Baltimore Pep Squad"). I ain't posting no pictures of no male cheerleaders. For that reason and that reason alone, I pick the Colts, let's say 21-17.
From SI.com: "The University of Minnesota appears to have its sights set on Flip Saunders and Tony Dungy to be its newest head coaches for it's basketball and football teams, respectively. -- Minneapolis Star Tribune" What? Does the U actually have a chance at either of these two! Is the administration ready to throw Nick Saban money at either of these two. Dungy is loved in Indy, despite his less than stellar success in the playoffs. Even if lost his job in Indy, he is so well liked that he would get a job elsewhere int he NFL. I don't believe Dungy has coached in college since 1980, when he was an assistant at Minnesota. I just don't see it. What about making a run for Walt Harris? Sure, he stunk at Stanford, but he was considered an offensive genius when he was an assistant at Ohio State, so he knows the Big Ten. He was also fairly successful at Pitt. As for Saunders, unless Flip thinks his days at Detroit are numbered, why leave the NBA? Minnesota needs someone who can recruit in the Big Ten and in-state! Mike Montgomery could be an option or what about Rick Majerus if he wants to leave TV? Steve Lavin?
