Hamstrings! The big sports story of the day will be hamstrings. Of course the national focus will be on T.O. and his pulled hamstring in Dallas training camp. (BTW, what happened to one-time QB of the future, Drew Henson, who will not make the Cowboys roster!?) Personally, I am little more concerned with Jim Thome's injury which is officially listed as a "day-to-day" situation. BTW2, it looks like Herm has lost 2 or 3 pounds!

Mackie Shilstone [is] a well-known fitness expert....

"A common denominator has to do with muscle fatigue," he says. "In baseball, you start to see it when you go from grass to turf, when you are in heat, not staying hydrated. So much has to with getting on that surface, getting into a position that is posturally unstable, when the pitcher gathers and everyone bends down. They get back up. They bend down. They get back up. It is poor mechanics and repetitive overuse. And then they put in people who aren't ready to go in, and they get re-injured."

According to Shilstone and other experts, the reasons go beyond fatigue to weight lifting, the abrupt stop-and-go demands of the game, players being too tight and POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS FROM STEROIDS. (emphasis added by me).

My sources said Thome's hobbled gait suggested more than a "day to day" injury. This may, instead, be the first stage of your squad's dive into the crapper.

The absence of Thome did not hurt today as the White Sox score 10 runs agaisnt the Tigers!
