Jack Del Rio Out as Jacksonville Coach

Maybe this mess of a franchise should just move to LA. That is, if the Vikes don't move there.

One reason I Root For Rick Majerus

Good coach and pretty damn funny too. Go, Billikens!!

College Hoops

Rick Majerus and the St. Louis Billikens are in the top 25. Harvard (unbeaten after defeating Florida State and UCF) deserves to be there too.

K's Morning Briefs

1. I could care less about the Big Ten Championship game.

2. I don't feel sorry for college football coaches. Not only do they make ridiculous salaries, but most of them, like Ron Zook, will still be paid millions after they are fired.

3. Urban Meyer is a great coach and a good fit for Ohio State. I just wish he wasn't such a liar. (Claims one of the reasons he "retired" at Florida was because he didn't like the state of football at the at time! Really? So, you are telling me that the state of college football is better now!?)

4. In case you care, I'm in second place in my fantasy football league (16-team). That's with Alex Smith and Tim Tebow as my qbs. RKG is still inthe lead in our Pro Pick 'em League. Maybe he can teach HM something about football. Doubtful.

Schwartz Deserves Blame for Suh's Dirty Antics

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=Agj2pRx6BX1Gc3hfA772p9dDubYF?slug=jc-cole_ndamukong_suh_lions_stomp_packers_112411

Great Article about Suh & Schwartz from Jason Cole.
Highlights-

But it’s also not much of a surprise that the same coach who earlier this season stormed after San Francisco counterpart Jim Harbaugh is now watching his team’s best player face a suspension for losing his cool...
This play was dumb not just because it’s the latest incident from Suh, a guy who is about to significantly add to the $42,500 he has been docked by the NFL in less than two full seasons. Not just because he further affirmed his reputation as the NFL’s dirtiest player (as named recently among his peers by The Sporting News). Rather, it was those two plus the fact that Suh cost his team a chance to win...
This all comes back to Schwartz.
He has done much to turn the Lions around, starting with the excitement of a 5-0 start. However, in the moments after Detroit’s first loss on Oct. 16 against San Francisco at home, Schwartz also lost his cool. After a bad exchange with counterpart Jim Harbaugh, Schwartz lost control and chased Harbaugh down the field.
In some respects, it was comical. At the same time, it probably warranted a fine. Now, weeks later, the Lions are playing like a team that doesn’t know how to handle tough situations. What a shocker. Players take their cues from the people in charge.

No, The Lions Are Not A Dirty,

undisciplined, whiny team! They are just misunderstood by every other team!

Nickleback- Your Turkey Day Game Halftime Show

Bears Sign QB Josh McCown

"I will Break you!"

Kyle Orton Returning to Chicago?!

On the (second?) biggest bar night of the year, will Kyle be returning to Chicago?

Waiver deadline approaching, but if no one claims him on waivers then we may not know for a while if the Bears have signed Kyle to a free agent deal. So, the Cutler from Denver trade is looking even better for the Bears, huh?

UPDATE: Being reported that the KC Chiefs have been awarded the waiver claim on Kyle Orton.

Breaking News: Broncos Waive Kyle Orton

According to reports. Is he coming back to Chicago?

Update from Sean Jensen: Denver Post story says, "Orton let it be known that Chicago would be one place he'd like to play for." Still, must get to #Bears via waivers

Some Fans are Idiots

Maybe you say something like "Elway, just because you were one of the greatest players of all time doesn't automatically make you a great GM." instead of: "John Elway you lost 3 superbowls and your team won 2 for you when u were washed up so shut your f#$% mouth."

Wow.

Should be a better fit than Michigan was.

Mediocre 12 ("Big Ten") Is Well No SEC

Would the best team in the Big Ten, whether you think it is Michigan State, Wisconsin or gasp, Penn State even be the fourth best team in the SEC? With LSU, Alabama, and Arkansas the top three in the nation, the Big Ten ain't cracking the top three in the SEC; but, I think the 4th best SEC team, Georgia might be better than any of those Big Ten teams.

While I'm a fan of Michigan football, they may be one of the worst 2 loss teams in the country. Amazing that Michigan is actually being considered for a BCS bowl.

Feeling Sad

Oh well, it's time for "In Hanie we trust." Gotta think positive, right!

NCAA Letter to Penn State

http://cbschicago.files.wordpress.com/2011/11/pennstatencaaletter2.pdf

I thought that the NCAA would stay out of this, categorizing this as a criminal matter for judicial authorities to resolve. Well I was wrong- and good for the NCAA.

Early AM Ramblings

1. Favorite Sports Story of the morning:

2. It's Tebow Time! Fell asleep just before the winning drive. Dude does just enough to win.

3. Urban Meyer to Ohio State rumors are firing up again. Will the Big Ten have three new coaches next season- Ohio State, Penn State, and Illinois?

4. Has "It's Alway Sunny in Philadelphia" jumped the shark? This season has been underwhelming to say the least.

Updated my Blogs to Follow. "Ozzie Speaks" out, replaced by South Side Asylum.

A must follow for White Sox fans.

And remember. There is no crying in baseball.

Hoops, Hoops and More College Hoops!

As the NBA players' union rejects the latest owners' proposal (Stupid!)- ESPN once again does its marathon of college basketball. I will once again be useless at work tomorrow.

Thank you, Bob Costas

Bob Costas last night during halftime of the Sunday Night game!

"In Chicago today, as the Bears routed the Lions, Devin Hester did what he does better than anyone ever has -- he returned a punt 82 yards for a touchdown. This was Hester's 17th career kick return for a score, punt and kickoff runbacks combined. Make it 18 if you throw in a 108-yard reversal-of-fortunes return of a missed field goal; 19 if we're counting postseason, as Hester sliced through the Colts on the opening kickoff of Super Bowl XLI, after which, Tony Dungy, a very smart man, reminded himself of that fact and didn't kick to him again.

Which brings up this question: Why does anyone ever kick to Hester? And why would anyone ever turn their back or leave their seat when someone does?

Here is one of the most electrifying performers in NFL history, who hasn't just followed, but, in his specialty, has gone beyond the likes of Travis Williams; Billy “White Shoes” Johnson; the still active Josh Cribbs; Brian Mitchell, who held the record until Hester zoomed past him; and even Hester's revered Bears predecessor, a player for the ages named Gale Sayers.

Now some of those players, most certainly including Sayers, did other things better than Hester, who doubles as a wide receiver. But when it comes to running back kicks, he's the best the League has ever seen. And at 29 and in good health, he's likely to put more distance between himself and everyone else on the list.

Which raises another question, can you make the Hall of Fame essentially as a special teams player?

Jan Stenurud is the only pure kicker in the Hall. There's no pure punter there, Ray Guy's many proponents notwithstanding. If there is to be a Hester candidacy, whatever he's done as a receiver is incidental. He'd make it for stuff like this (video of kick returns), and when somebody's the best the game has ever seen at what they do, really, how can you keep him out?"

The K-Line approves!

Joe Pa - Former Sportsman of the Year

1986

Peter King's MidSeason NFL Awards

Devin Hester- Punt Returner

With a punt and a kick return for touchdown in the first seven games, Hester is polishing his resume for Immortalville. Remains a mystery why anyone would kick to the man.Read more: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/writers/peter_king/11/03/midseason.awards/index.html#ixzz1d2bE8TH9

Immortalville? Sounds like King thinks he is a Hall of Famer.

Penn State- Some Bad Stuff

The allegations against former Penn State Defensive Coordinator Jerry Sandusky are disgusting. I could not finish reading them. Just google Penn State and/or Jerry Sandusky if you want to read any of them.

Joe Pa's rep is at the very least tarnished. Was it part of the "cover-up"? Not good. Not good.

No NBA- No Problem

Some great alternative viewing instead of NBA games.

Last night CSN-Chicago had "The Making of the Luvabulls" and a mid-80's Jordan Bulls' game (apparently TV execs have been told by the NBA to not re-broadcast any games with current NBA players).

Tonight I saw that ESPN Classic is broadcasting "The White Shadow" @ 7:00pm central- don't know which episode.

Guessing NBA-TV will have plenty of re-runs of old games, expect a lot of Bird, Magic and Jordan. NBA-TV loves to show "One on One", "Teen Wolf" and "The Fish that Saved Pittsburgh." Here's hoping that they will show the very underrated "Fast Break" (Gabe Kaplan in his finest acting role.)
