Off to The Cell Tonight-Because it is Not Over

Alec Baldwin Moves In with 27-year old Girlfriend- Stud!!

Not only 27, but also a yoga instructor. So, he's got that going for him, which is nice.

JOE MAUER AD

Personally- I think this is pretty funny. But, i'm more interested in what the locals think about this ad. Based on what I have I read on Twitter lately, Mauer is not exactly loved by all in Minnesota right now. Then again, he will probably average three hits in the upcoming series agaisnt the White Sox.

So NOW, Tribe Fans "Like" Thome !?

Like most White Sox fans today, I'm all over Twitter following the Thome waiver story (and to a lesser extent, the Jason Kubel story). It is funny how many Indian fans want the Tribe to add Thome. Some are pissed that the White Sox would dare block him from returning "home" (Thome leaves in a Chicago suburb- but whatever, Cleveland!).
Really!? Are these the same Tribe fans that constantly booed Thome at every return at-bat in Cleveland (Point of reference- Twins fans, these boos are louder than your booing of AJ, or would be louder if they actually averaged more than 3,000 fans when the White Sox visited with Thome in 2006-2009!). Read these comments from Tribe fans in response to a story telling Tribe fans to bury the hatchet with Thome. There are a few comments appreciative of Thome but the majority are negative including the following:

Thome. No steroids? look at some of his photos in his early days. especially when he played third base. no steriods my ass

http://www.cleveland.com/budshaw/index.ssf/2011/08/shaw_spin_8-11/3523/comments-newest-5.html

Cleveland, you don't deserve Thome. And don't use the "Lebron leaving Cleveland excuse" here. That won't fly here! No sympathy from me.

Paul Konerko gets Hit #2,0000!

Not quite good enough to join Bernie Mac as Mr. 3000, but damn good for The Captain!

From the White Sox Wire:
Konerko joins an impressive list of players to collect No. 2,000 in a White Sox uniform, including Jim Thome (2008), Frank Thomas (2003) and Carlton Fisk (1989). Konerko also is close to joining Thomas and becoming the 41st player in MLB history with 400 home runs (he's just 7 shy) and 2,000 hits.

More On Thome

From Buster Oney Twitter this morning:

There is a high expectation among execs that CWS will be team awarded claim to Jim Thome. What's unknown: Whether a deal can be worked out

Twins Place Thome on Waivers

Philly are interested, and that would give him a good chance to finally get a World Series ring (but how much value can he can provide a NL team. Can't play the field at all and not a great pinch-hitter). Indians may be interested with Hafner hurt. Can't imagine the White Sox or Tigers wouldn't try to block the Indians. I would hvae to say there's a good chance Thome ain't going anywhere (unless the Twins really want to slash payroll).

Other players reportedly placed on waivers thus far- Jason Kubel and Heath Bell.

Having Denise Richards would help. I'll probably watch it. But, yeah, 50 Million viewers seems far-fetched!

Possible Trouble For LSU Football!

Just when I was thinking of going with LSU as my preseason #1 in college football, this report comes out. If QB Jordan Jefferson gets suspended for any games (LSU plays Oregon in its second game), its national championship hopes suffer a severe blow.

Humber to DL; Kinney Called Up

Maybe Badger knew somethign when he took this picture back in Spring Training?

Cubbies Fire Jim Hendry-Finally!!

Not total morons on the North Side (maybe Hendry will blame Zambrano!). First good move in a while for the Cubbies. Got to think that Quade is out after the season. But in all likelihood you ain't getting Sandberg now- you done ("Adam Dunn?") burned that bridge!! The Sandberg talk has already started on Chicago sports radio. Gosh, I hope that Ryno tells the Cubbies to stick it after they treated him like crap last year.

Wondering where all the Hendry-defenders are right now, those who told me in 2008 that Hendry was a better GM than Kenny Williams?!

Walkoff, Chicago Style!

Both Chicago games ended with walk-offs!
1. White Sox win on Juan Pierre single in the bootom of the 14th inning (I left after the 13th inning! It was after midnight, peeps!).
2, Cubbies lose on a walk-off Grand Slam!!

How Many Wins Will Zambrano Finish With?

http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/z/zambrca01.shtml

He is Win-Loss record of 125-81 (.607 winning percentage- that's better than Buerhle's). And he is only 30 years old. Is 200 wins a possibility? 150?

Congrats, Jim Thome on Home Run #600!

Pictured is clearly my favorite home run of Thome's 600 home runs.

I'm pretty sure that Thome's milestone home runs happened as follows:

#300- with the Indians

#400- with the Phillies

#500- with the Sox

#600- with the Twins

Crazy Z!!!

Que Gnarls Barkley's Crazy (or maybe Patsy Cline's Crazy) for the today's Cubbies' locker room music.

Cubbies should have traded him a long time ago. Then again, the Cubbies should have hired Ryno as manager instead of Quade (do you think Ryne Sandberg would have allowed some of the craziness that has been going on this season?)

Still- Rios or Dunn straight up for Zambrano. Ozzie & Cooper would keep him in check. And if not, well then at least Ozzie wouldn't be the craziest guy in the White Sox clubhouse!!

Former Warrant Lead Singer Dead at 47!

Apparently an appearance on "Celebrity Fit Club" was not enough to save him!
Strip Clubs throughout the country will have a moment of silence before playing "Cherry Pie"!

9 Talk Shows Worse than Lopez Tonight!

Talk about bad memories!
Maybe if Rick Dees could have had a grown-up Jodi Swetin instead of a 10 year old Jodi Swetin as a guest, his show would have survived!
Not even Howard Stern could save "The Magic Hour"!

It stars Amber Heard and she plays a Playboy bunny. What else do you need to know?

The bottom pic (batting in a Mets' cap) is from SI.com, a great picture!

Kathy Ireland- reason enough to watch "Necessary Roughness" (the 1991 movie, not the current TV series)!

More Jereme Richmond

Hard to fell sorry for this kid. Charges against him have been raised to three felonies.

http://espn.go.com/chicago/ncb/story/_/id/6847522/ex-university-illinois-standout-jereme-richmond-faces-battery-gun-charges

The Sun-Times has a timeline of the good and bad of his life:

http://www.suntimes.com/sports/6973444-418/the-jereme-richmond-timeline.html

But the best may be Richmond's tweet from earlier this year.

"If I so happen to fail, I want my doubters to know that my failure is greater than your biggest success." -Jereme Richmond, April 2011

I don't think so, Jereme. I don't think so.

How Dumb Could He Be?

Ex-Illini basketball player (not going to say star) continues his parade of idiocy. Leave college after one year, hires agent, doesn't get drafted and now he is sitting in a Lake County Jail!

August 8th- An Interesting Anniversary for Chicago Baseball

August 8, 1976- In the first game of a double-header, the Chicago White Sox donned some pretty unique uniforms: shorts! It looks like the Sox only wore these great unis for three games.

8-8-88: It's also anniversary-well sort of- on the other side of town. The first night game (yes, youngsters until 1988, there were no lights and ergo no night games at Wrigley!) was scheduled for August 8, 1988. Unfortunately, Mother Nature rained the game out after 3 plus innings, so the first official night game at Wrigley was August 9th, 1988.

Good Work, White Sox Coaching Staff

Ozzie, Greg Walker and the rest of the White Sox staff has gotten plenty of criticism this season, a good amount of it well deserved.

But Ozzie Guillen, Joey Cora, and Don Cooper should be applauded for pushing Jake Peavy's start from Satyrday to Sunday giving him an extra day of rest (8 innings of shutout ball) and calling up Zach Stewart to earn his first MLB victory on Saturday. The move lead to the White Sox getting a 3 game sweep of the Twins in Minnesota.

Happy Birthday, Mr. President!

Yankees 18 White Sox 7

Really thought it was bushleague that NY went for the 2 point conversion after making it 16-7. And Nick Swisher is still a d-bag!

Randy Moss and his NFL Legacy

Jason Whitlock does a superb job of summing up Randy Moss' career. HM has a poll on his blog on Randy Moss and his Hall of Fame chances. After reading Whitlock's column, I am persuaded that Moss should be a first ballot HOF, despite all his issues on and off the field
