Some Quick Random Thoughts On This New Year's Eve Morning

1. Will the Boston Celtics ever win another game?
2. I'm guessing most of you missed the most exciting bowl game of the season thus far-yesterday's Humanitarian Bowl. Vandals!!
3. Alright, Northwestern B-Ball team, we give you some kudos and how do you respond? OT loss to the Illini.
4. How often will Brett Favre come out of retirement in the next decade?
5. Pac-10 in the bowl season so far? Does that bode well for Ohio State in the Rose Bowl. I still like the Ducks in that one.
6. Go to Hell, Carolina, Go to Hell!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

It is gonna be a busy day, so just in case I am posting this now.

MORE ON THE MIKE LEACH FIRING

According to ESPN.COM:

Some Texas Tech players believed the university's decision to dismiss Leach was appropriate.

"I have no complaints about this decision. [Leach] put Adam [James] in a shed like an animal. Like an animal in a cage. That was bull," defensive lineman Chris Perry said. "You call other players. I think it was a good decision. We have our pep back now. We practice hard this week. We had less stress this week. You know why? Because he's gone."

Wide receiver Tramain Swindall said he supported the decision to fire Leach.

"I do agree and I'm supporting Adam and what he's doing because it's the right thing to do," Swindall told the AP in a telephone interview.

Swindall said he believes Leach was at times out of line in how he treated players.

"And so do most of the players," he said. "It wasn't just about Adam. It was always a negative vibe."

Said cornerback Taylor Charbonnet: "The players make this team, not one coach. As Adam's friend, I didn't like it at all what [Leach] did. He was my brother and I didn't agree with it. I don't know why [Leach] did that. But I know we are fully behind [interim] coach Ruffin [McNeill]. We love him and support him."

MIKE LEACH- THIS IS A STRANGE GUY

http://njfrogman.blogspot.com/2009/12/exclusive-video-mike-leach-and-his.html

I gotta tell you, if I was Craig James (first of all that would be cool, I wonder if he ever hangs with Eric Dickerson) and it was my son, I would have kicked Mike Leach's ass (although Leach would have filed a Motion for a temporary restraining order-see, Leach is a fan of "restraining.").

We previously posted Leach's comments about "fat girlfriends" here's Leach's views on dating. I hope he is trying to be funny in this video, but I don't think so..

Apparently on a second date, Leach suggests that you lock your date in a shed!!

Brittany Murphy Tribute

http://duelingcouches.blogspot.com/2009/12/accidental-overdose-killed-brittany.html

Natural Causes? Heavy Drug use? Accidental overdose?

In any case, here is a tribute to Brittany Murphy from one of her early works, Drop Dead Gorgeous, for my money, after Fargo, the second best documentary about the residents of Minnesota.

Why I Will Not Be Moving to Washington state

Some bull-crap laws there! Hopefully there are other places where a man can truly enjoy his coffee or triple-expresso!

YANKEES GET P JAVIER VAZQUEZ FROM BRAVES

Not sure how well Javy will do back in the AL and Homer-friendly Yankees Stadium. Not exactly a big-game pitcher, but still a big boost to the Yankees' starting rotation.
Best starting rotation in MLB?
Red Sox?
Yankees?
White Sox?
Cardinals?
San Fran?
?

BOBBY KNIGHT RIPS CALIPARI

Good for Knight!

da Bears!

Matt Damon Knows Sh*t About Football

I like Matt Damon as an actor and I respect that he is a loyal Boston sports fans, but why do I have to listen to him comment on sports. Prior to the season, Bob had a post where Damon stated the Pats are going undefeated this season!!! How did that work out?! Now I get my current SI in the mail and Dan Patrick's "Just my Type" Columns has an interview with Damon. Well, among other things, he defends Belichick going on 4th down rather than punting against the Colts!?!
Idiot!
I have forgotten more about football than Damon knows.
(And by the way, your appearance on "Entourage" blowed!)

WOW!!

1. Red Sox sign John Lackey.
2. Phillies get Roy Halliday as part of a three team trade. While not confirmed, it appears that Cliff Lee will be traded to the Mariners as part of the deal. If true, Phillies are basically trading Lee for Halliday. Based on the way that Lee pitched in the post-season, not sure that is a huge improvement for the Phillies.
Wow!

How many will come out of the Wood-work?

I'm placing the over/under for how many mistresses/girlfriends of Tiger come out in public at 25. I think the number right now is at 13 or 14.
So at 25, do you take the over or the under?

5 Non-Tiger Woods Sports Topics for the Day

With single digit temps in Chicago, trying to think warm thoughts.

1. Mike Lowell form the Red Sox to the Rangers!! Does that mean that the Milton Bradley to Red Sox rumors are dead?

2. While Brian Kelly still appears to be the front runner for the Notre Dame job, UConn Randy Edsell's name continues to come up as a strong candidate. At some point the Big East has to stop being a launching pad for "better coaching opportunities" if it wants to be considered an elite football conference.

3. The rumors of former Nebraska great and current U-Buff coach Turner Gill becoming the Kansas football coach are intriguing to say the least. Minnesota's Tim Brewster may also be in consideration for the job.

4. All I can say about the free fall of the Bulls (1-9) is thank God for the Blackhawks!!
5. Badgers beat the Dukies last night and then lose to Wisconsin-Green Bay in overtime. If that wasn't bad enough for Badger, when he tried to watch the overtime on the Big Ten Network, what was on instead? Women's basketball!

FROM THE HECKLER: PRESIDENT OBAMA

picked as new Notre Dame football coach!!

By Choice, Conscious Choice, I Pick

"Say Anything" as one of my Top Twenty Favorite Films.

Yeah, it has been 20 years since the world first met Lloyd Dobler, but I just saw the classic again.

One of my favorite scenes:

From the Graduation Party, where Lloyd is "keymaster"

Mike Cameron: I don't know you very well, you know, but I wanted to ask you - how'd you get Diane Court to go out with you?

Lloyd Dobler: I called her up.

Mike Cameron: But how come it worked? I mean, like, what are you?

Lloyd Dobler: I'm Lloyd Dobler.

Mike Cameron: This is great. This gives me hope. Thanks.
