White Sox Trade CQ

Kenny Williams couldn't let my 2011 end without depressing me a little more.
White Sox acquire RHP Simon Castro and LHP Pedro Hernandez from Padres for OF Carlos Quentin
Oh well, time to look forward to the New Year!

White Means Piece? Happy New Year

Stay Classy, Illini!!

Talk about a crappy bowl game- Illin v. UCLA!

Coudn't Help Myself!

Here's hoping that QB Crist, who transferred to Kansas has a kick-ass season under Big Boy, i.e., Charlie Weis

Walking Dead Marathon!!!

http://blogs.amctv.com/the-walking-dead/2011/12/the-walking-dead-full-series-marathon.php

Your chance to catch up on one of the best shows on TV (and my personal favorite of 2011!).

Happy New Year!

In case I run out of time later- Happy New Year!

Actually Watched Some College Football Last Night!

1. Based on quality of co-eds alone, Florida State deserved the win over ND. As my faithful readers know, I am far from a ND fan, so take my comments with the requisite amount of salt. Brian Kelly, here is a crazy suggestion- instead of yelling at your qbs after every mistake, how about actually coaching them and preparing them for the game! At this point it looks like bad PR on your part- "It ain't my fault, but the fact that my quarterbacks suck! See, I am yelling them after they screw up." Stop it BK.

2. Baylor's football team outscored the Loyola Ramblers bk team last night- 60 to 48! If you were a defensive player in yesterday's Alamo Bowl, do you actually admit it.

Just A Thought

Too Many Damn Bowl Games

Does anyone care about any of the bowl games played thus far?
At a bar last night and two bowl games were on and no one was watching either game. The Belk Bowl?! Patrons were much more interested in the Illini-Gophers hoops game.

Thanks, HM

Yes- an actual find on HM's blog!

Hope You Get What You Want For Christmas

This does not appear to be under my tree.
But it should be a good Christmas nonetheless.

Spreading Holiday Cheer!

Tomorrow- Starting My Christmas Shopping!

Then again, I may wait till Saturday.

Commentary on Top TV Shows of 2011

1. The Walking Dead- I don't like zombie movies. I don't like horror movies, yet this is my favorite TV show of the year. It's about human relationship and how people deal with dire situations. Each show delivers at least one "holy crap" moment and talk about an incredible mid-season finale! Only a season and a half thus far so plenty of time to catch up.

2. Breaking Bad- So AMC is pretty much the best network for original programing and Sunday night (5 of my top ten shows air on Sunday night) is the best nite for TV viewing.

3. Homeland- best new show of 2011. In case you have not watched this show, do so.
Clare Danes is outstanding.

4. Justified- Loved the Bennett family story line of season 2. Margo Martindale won an emmy for her performance as Mags Bennett- and this is the one that the Emmys got right.

5. Boardwalk Empire- The last two episodes of the season kicked Boardwalk up a spot on this list. My biggest problem with this show is too many characters and too many storylines. But incredible acting and visually this show transports you to Prohibition Atlantic City.

6. Sons of Anarchy- underwhelming season finale- but still a good season overall.

7. Curb Your Enthusiasm - some of the funniest TV of the year.

8. Parks & Recreation- Didn't care for this show's season 1 but since then it has become "must-watch TV." Ron Swanson- currently the best character on TV?

9. Modern Family- don't love this show as much as some people but I have to admit it does make me laugh. Plus you get the added bonus of watching Sofia Vergara and Julie Bowen.

10. Episodes- Matt LeBlanc playing a dick version of himself. Outstanding!

HM- Lights Out, Breakout Kings and Person of Interest.

Some Good Chicago Sports News!

1. The NBA's best player will be in Chicago for a while. D Rose signs contract extension wit the Bulls.

2. Danks and the White Sox agree to a 5 year extension. It would have been tough to lose both Buerhle and Danks. Sure, Danks could still get traded but that is certainly less likely now.

3. Blackhawks with Crawford in the net defeat the Canadiens 5-1. It's a good problem to have two hot goalies.
Hopefully that will last for a while.

More Good News for the White Sox

White Sox fans have not had a great offseason- except for two Sox-killers leaving the American League.

Addition by Subtraction?

K's Top 10 TV Shows of 2011

With no new episodes of Mad Men in 2011 (one of my favorite TV shows of all time), the #1 spot was up for grabs. As you will see, I am not a fan of network TV and I have become a cable/premium channel snob.

2. Breaking Bad

3. Homeland- best new show of 2011

4. Justified

5. Boardwalk Empire

6. Sons of Anarchy

7. Curb Your Enthusiasm

9. Modern Family

10. Episodes

HM- Lights Out, Breakout Kings and Person of Interest.

Was hopping to post some commentary, but pressed for time. Will try to do so later.

Thanks Blackhawks, For Helping Us Forget about The Bad News Bears!

Coach Q ets his 600th win and the Blackhawks are back at #1 overall with the most points.

Time to turn to the Blackhawks and the Bulls earlier than I thought.

Trying to Find Happiness From The Weekend!

Pops is back in the hospital so that keeps things in perspective.

Since the Bears (see you Caleb Hanie and take Jerry Angelo with you!) stink, I had to find happiness in other games.

1. Kyle Orton and the Chiefs knock the Packers from the Undefeated! Earlier int he day I saw a kid (in church no less!) with this on his sweatshirt- "Driving undefeated on the road to the Super Bowl." Ah, no!

2. Finally, victory for the Colts. Good. The 0-16 record should be the exclusive province of the Detroit Lions and their dumb-ass fans!
