Alright Cubs fans (I was rooting for the Brew Crew), so it's basically 50-50 that Kerry Wood will blow it in a save opportunity! You are not going to win the World Series with those kind of stats in your closer (unless you score 19 runs in every game like the Cubs did on Wednesday!) Still don't understand why you don't at least try Marmol (who was great in finishing the 7th and the 8th innings) in the closer role. Don't give me that crap that Marmol doesn't have the experience top be the closer. Just take a look across town and see what the young Jenks did in 2005. If Marmol doesn't work as your closer, then go back to Kerry Wood- what do you lose with that approach. No, instead Cubs fans would rather vine about Soriano in the lead-off spot! That's the question that everyone is asking everyone in Chicago (and throughout the Midwest) today (before discussion turns to Brenneman ripping on Cubs' fans and Urlacher being a greedy bastard). Well the answer for is: Yes- I felt it. I was at my brother's house in Channahon- about 60 miles from Chicago (not far from Joliet). Very early this morning (found out later that it was about 4:35 am) I was awaken by the bed shaking- no more like vibrating and not in a good way. In my half awaken state I thought that make it was a semi-truck rambling by, but I quickly realized that not it couldn't be and then for a second, I thought- could this be an earthquake? Well, it stopped (this entire episode lasted no more than 15 seconds) and somehow I quickly went back to sleep. Well, like everyone else, i found out that there was an earthquake in downstate Illinois- West Salem Illinois- measuring 5.4 in magnitude. Well, at least, I;m not crazy and I wasn't dreaming. So, did you feel it?

BOWLING!

My buddy, Tommie G, once told me that the best first date (especially a "fix-up"\blind date) is bowling. Hopefully, I will not have to explain why. In any case, I'm pretty sure he did not have this in mind. Or, maybe he did?

PRELUDE TO A CHAMPION!

I was going to start the new, revised list of Hottest Sports Wives and Girlfriends yesterday. But, I was busy at the Cell watching Joe Crede belt a grand slam to beat the Twinkees! A White Sox victory and an Ozzie ejection- sweet!

Even with the list expanding from 20 to 25, five ladies have been kicked off the "old" list- Eva Longoria (one of my favorites, but most of you don't seem to like her as much as I do); Victoria Beckham (again, totally my type: athletic body with a huge rack; but most of you thought she was getting way too thin); Ashley Judd (just too much competition from the youngsters); Mia Hamm (Sorry, HM); and, Carol Alt (still looked pretty, pretty good on "The Celebrity Apprentice", but granted she is getting up there in age). All of these, except for Mia, are welcomed to my abode.

Not making the list of 25: Michelle Damon; Laura Posada; Lisa Guerrero; Elizabeth Hasselbeck and Willa Ford.

Roy Williams just doesn't understand and can't get over the fact that he is HATED in Lawrence, Kansas! He specifically mentioned the fact that at least one Lawrence establishment, his picture is above the urinals. (Note: the last coach to win a National Championship at Kansas before Self, Larry Brown was clearly rooting for UNC in the Final Four semis.) So he wears a Kansas pin during the championship game. Roy, why do you give a damn what they think about you in Kansas? What did you think was going to happen when you left for UNC? IT'S DEJA VU FOR KANSAS FANS!

The Jayhawks make the Final Four for the first time since 2003, and just like 2003, Kansas will have to deal with rumors that its coach will be leaving for his alma mater. In 2003, it was Roy Williams going to UNC (When Roy Williams stated after the championship loss: "I don't give a sh*t about Carolina, right now." and still bolted for Carolina). Now, it's Bill Self being courted by his alma mater (and that of his wife) Oklahoma State. Reliable inside sources tell the K-Line that OSU boosters have been planning for the buy-out of Sean Sutton's contract coupled with the pursuit of Self. Self is in a precarious position. If he doesn't go on the record and state publicly and loudly that he has no interest in the Oklahoma State job and Kansas loses to Carolina or in the championship game, then everyone will say his team was distracted by the rumors. If he pulls a "Roy Williams: "I don't give a sh*t about Oklahoma State and then bolts for OSU, he will need a constant police escort whenever his team plays in Lawrence. Kansas, if it loses another coach to a coach's alma mater better make sure that its next coach is a Kansas alum. Danny Manning? Rex Walters?

ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST....
This week, the week preceding the final four weekend is always a big week for the firing and hiring of college basketball coaches. Almost all Division 1 coaches plus a lot of assistants and out-of work coaches travel to the Final Four site (they don't all go to the games, they hang around the hotels, attend conferences, meet with colleagues, but most importantly just to be seen) so rumors will fly that certain coaches have been hired or have been offered jobs.
1. Sean Sutton appears to be out at Oklahoma State. Early rumors- OSU will make a run at OSU alum Bill Self. Of course Dickie V will scream that OSU should consider hiring Bobby Knight.

2. Indiana is still looking for a coach. Early rumors had the Hoosiers looking at Washington State's Tony Bennett. Bennett is apparently not interested, so the next in the rumor line is former Stanford coach, Mike Montgomery. Of course Dickie V will scream that Indiana should consider hiring Bobby Knight.

3. LSU is also looking for a basketball coach and an AD. Duke AD Joe Alleva is set to interview for the LSU athletic director job. What if he takes that job- how long till the rumors start that Alleva will try to bring Coach K with him! One rumor I heard had former Chicago Bulls' coaching legend Tim Floyd leaving USC for LSU. Pitt's coach (Jamie Dixon ) would then take the USC job and Xavier's Sean Miller returning to his alma mater. Of course, Dickie V will scream that LSU should consider hiring Bobby Knight.

4. Some other jobs open: Cal, Western Kentucky, San Francisco, Kent State and Toledo (considering Buzz Peterson). The Northwestern job is not yet available, but it should be!
